In the 1950s and 1960s, I lived with my family on a hilltop on West Paces Ferry Road, near the intersection with Nancy Creek Road. Our near-vertical driveway gave me plenty of exercise on my way home from Margaret Mitchell Elementary School, named after the author of Gone with the Wind. Once I arrived at the top, I was surrounded by forest, other than the lawn, swimming pool, paved turn-around with basketball hoop and badminton court, two-car garage, and two-story brick colonial home, with four upstairs bedrooms, quite useful for a family with seven children.
I didn’t feel privileged to live in this Buckhead neighborhood…. I took this world for granted.
