Bill Bolling started the Atlanta Community Food Bank in 1979. I interviewed him in January 2015, a few months before he retired, though he remains very active in Atlanta affairs. Over the span of 36 years, he led the Food Bank’s distribution of more than half a billion pounds of food and grocery products through a network of more than 600 local and regional partner nonprofit organizations that feed the hungry across 29 Georgia counties. Here he talks about the Food Bank’s 50,000-strong volunteer program and the fact that in our country, 30% of all food goes to waste. He makes a strong argument that adequate food and nutrition are vital to education and health.
